ANSWER
The "Margherita Pizza" is dedicated to Queen Margherita Teresa Giovanni. According to legend, this pizza was invented by Don Raffaele Esposito, a tavern owner in Naples, to honor the queen on her visit to that city. On June 11th, 1889, Esposito developed the pizza featuring tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil to represent the red, white, and green colors of the Italian flag. This marked the first time cheese was used on a pizza, and as such represents the birth of the modern pizza as we know it today.
